BARABINO CARLO

Ritratto di staglieno

As the Civic Architect, we owe him most of the neoclassical buildings in Genoa: his interventions have concerned both the urban structure and the construction of some public and typical buildings, like the “Carlo Felice“ theatre, the “Palazzo dell’Accademia”, etc. In 1835, further to the debate with regard to the need to build a necropolis in which the burials would have to be public and democratic and which had to be provided with precise hygienic rules, he was commissioned to plan a cemetery who had to meet not only the operational requirements, but it had also to be provided with central and monumental traits. Unfortunately Barabino hasn’t been able to carry out his project because he died the same year in the cholera epidemic which hit the city
